Wisbech - The Fens

Very peaceful overnight at Salthouse - the gentle sounds of the North Sea breaking against the beach of pebbles is quite restful. A slow morning with the day being about getting the front tyre replaced.

We drove along the north Norfolk coast through very scenic farmlands and coastal vistas. Stopped for a coffee at Hunstanton on the cliffs, before moving on to King's Lynn to look for a tyre business - this being located we were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable cost for the change. Away within 20 minutes!

Next stop - lunch and then a supermarket. With the population of the UK you are never far from a seizable supermarket.

Wisbech was our next destination - the Georgian capital of the Fens. It is quite surprising that this town was once a busy sea trading port before the draining of the fens.

We wandered this old town with a visit to the Peckover House - the home of the merchant Quaker family who were one of the prosperous merchants from the 18th century.

The town is often used as a setting for period dramas.

We noticed a very strong Eastern European community with a number of specialty grocery shops for Polish, Russian and Lithuanian residents.

Settled in Wisbech for our overnight.
