Danube - Riedlingen

The trail of the Danube continued today. We enjoyed a sunny morning in Tuttlingen before charting our course further along the Danube - not wishing to travel very far - we came to rest rest at the  delightful town of Riedlingen - 540m above sea level .

The route took us through part of the Schwabische  Alps and thought very rich farming areas. It brought to mind the notion that the rich fertile land of Northern Europe was at the basis of why Western Europe has been the dominate political entity for over a thousand years.

Arrived at the pictureques Riedlingen before lunch and parked up on the banks if the Danube overlooking this very smart medieval village. An added bonus was that it had been market day here as well. By the afternoon this had packed up and we were able to get a better look at this old village. 15th century Rathaus (with the resident storms nest at the highest point), the former granary (Alte Kasernel), many timber framed buildings, university classes taking place above the market, huge 16th century gorhic wall painting preserved in the St Georg church, all added to the intrigue of this town.

The Danube here is still a small river and shallow. The towns folk were cooling their feet from the small people island in the centre.

Sun was starting to warm the afternoon ( we are not complaining though!) so we withdrew to the stellplatz for some shade and a quiet finish to the day.
It is still tough!!
