The Danube - Passau

Last day on the Danube today - and how the mighty river has grown!

Arrived in Passau and was able to see a flood height record sketched on the wall of the Rathaus - the floods back in May totally blitzed the previous highs over the centuries- if you enlarge the photo you will be able to see the flood mark above all the others! Awesome!!
The flood level marker.
Another warm day - as they all have been along this river. We parked up near the town - being a Saturday this was much easier than a normal week day.

Passau is just a stones throw from the Austrian border and a about an hour from the Czech border. Passau's importance stems from the fact that it is the city 'of the three river' - it is here that the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz rivers converge. The town is a major port for Danube river cruises.
Not my photo!

Passau is also called the Baroque city - the ruling Bishop of Passau used Italian architects of the Italian Baroque Schools to build the Dom Stant Stephan - the major attraction in the town.
The Dom
Like most German towns and cities it was in the middle of a major festival - with the town alive with music, street artists and  all kinds of entertainment. It is interesting to note that their is always a place for the young artists to perform.
How is it done!
The town is built on a peninsula the appears to jut out into the Danube and it is a most picturesque location.

Left later in the day for a restful late afternoon and evening at Freyung. Tomorrow the Czech Republic!
