The Elbe - Bad Schandau

Pace of life slowed a little this morning! Took a stroll around the gardens, pond and village of Bad Gottleuba. A quiet village with  folk unhurriedly going about their business. Late morning we set off for the spa town of Bad Schandau on the Elbe River.
Gardens, pond and van at Bad Gottleuba!

The Elbe was one of the German rivers that flooded seriously back in May. Everywhere we went in the town you could see evidence of this 3.5m flood.
Metal flood protection panels in Bad Schandau- but still a big cleanup!
The water even overwhelmed specific flooded panels around buildings the would have been at the 3m level! Skips, work trucks and tradies we all employed to repair the damage. Business we still out of  action all these months.

We relaxed by the Elbe, had lunch and then later in the afternoon we decided on a short excursion to Lichtenhainer Wasserfall. Due to a little misunderstanding due to language we followed signs to the waterfall which meant we had a 20 minute walk down hill and when we arrived we found that the local Germans knew of a road that achieved the same end! We were left with a 30 minute walk uphill! This would have been okay but it is terribly hot! Nevertheless, the walk through a very pretty forest was in itself rewarding.
What we expended all our energies for!

A beautiful bush area.
We returned to Bad Schandau, parked by the Elbe, put the chairs out under the shade of the trees and enjoyed a read and a red!

At times, life can be tough!

An after thought - the film "Inglorious Basterds" was filmed in Bad Schandau!
