The Weser - Hann.Munden

Toady was our final day along the Weser River valley. A very scenic and charming area. It also had some highlights of the journey with the Weser Skywalk and the finest medieval  town along the river in Hann.Munden.
Viewing along the Weser River
A relatively early start to the day with a short drive to Bad Karlshafen and the Weser Skywalk - not that was easy to find mind you! We had fairly clear directions from a lady in Beverungen, then more directions from a lady cutting backberries, before running into some German tourists who were also having trouble finding it. Once on the right track we located the skywalk. It offered some outstanding views along the river.

We followed the river further along and reach Hann. Munden. You can understand how the Brothers Grimm would be inspired to a medieval village such as this. Hann.Mundwn's reputation as the finest medieval town of the surrounding area is well deserved. Weser Renaissance timber framed house throughout the town making it a very popular town for locals and visitors alike.

Hann.Munden is also where the Fulda and Werra Rivers meet to form the larger Weser River. It is here also that the 'Alte Werrabrucke' (Old Werra Bridge) is a local landmark, being one of northern Germany's oldest stone bridges and still in regular use - built roughly in 1250!

The Rathaus in Hann. Munden, also in the Weser Renaissance style was built around 1600. With a Dr Eisenbart inspired glockenspiel display a 12 each day!

With many other interesting features in the town we thought this was a fitting end to a river valley which has been well worth the visit.

Later in the afternoon we drove on the Kassel - immediately got the vibes of a much larger centre and the inspiration had gone. So set sights on our overnight at Breuna - a much quieter village - more to our liking.
