The Weser - Hoxtor to Beverungen

What a lovely river valley! Very unpretentious, not highly touristy but offers as much if not more than the more high profiled river valleys. Timber framed house villages,  ancient cloisters, castles, Grimm Brothers fairytales - just the beginning.

After a couple of nights in the village of Bevern we move  a little further up river to the village of Holzminden - another impressive village along the Weser valley.

Further on we came to the ancient Imperial Abbey of Corvey - founded  in the year 815! These cloisters have undergone many changes over the centuries to what we see today, a Schloss. Corvey was an important cog in the Holy Roman Empires wheel - it had a licence to print coins very early on plus it was seen a a great centre of learning - very important for the Catholics and their endeavours to convert Northern Europe . It also had great economic importance under the feudal system that existed during the Middle Ages. What we saw today gives the impression of a very financial and powerful  establishment that controlled the surrounding  countryside.

Moved onto Hoxter which has an interesting history - like many Northern European towns it suffered dreadfully during the Thirty Years War of the 17th century and just recently with and explosion in the centre of the town that destroyed many buildings. But still some outstanding examples of the Weser Renaissance architectural style.

Rather ornate!

We have ended up at the village of Beverungen. The stellplatz is beside the Weser River with an wonderful outlook - very popular with German motorhomers too! Looks like a likely place to spend a few days!
