The Weser - Hameln to Bevern

One ginormous thunderstorm at 4.00 am this morning. It lasted for about 25 minutes but what a display! It cleared the air after many days of hot weather - but it didn't take long for the temperature to climb back to the late 20s.

Just down the road was the famous town of Hameln (Hamelin) - the Pied Piper and all that - the rat town! Much of tourist literature hasn't hyped up Hameln at all so we were delighted to find a very engaging yet historic town.
Guess where we are?

A typical Northern Germany timber house
.

Another Weser Timber Framed House.
Of course we did the rat thing! Following brass rat, tiles set in the pavement, trail around the historic centre. We missed the re-enactment of the 13th century fairytale by a day - every Sunday this occurs. The fairy tale is believed to have a historical basis of the local count encouraging a large number of towns folk to move further east to his land and create a village.
The Rat Trail!
We decided to move on to Hamelschenburg for lunch and a look. A other interesting village with a fairy-tale like castle as a back drop.
Hamelschenburg - a fairy-tale castle.
Later we moved on to Bodenwerder, famous for the home of Baron Munchhausen, after whom the Munchhausen syndrome is named. Another  quaint village geared up for the tourist market but with very few visitors around! This is the height of the German holiday period - I would have expected more people to be visiting - the car parks were only quarter full.
A tall story from Baron Munchhausen.
Followed our way further along the Weser River to the town of Bevern - here we called it a day  and located the stellplatz for our evening.
Around all this quaintness and history - a nuclear power station!
